Position Summary
The Permit Coordinator supports Fatbeam’s Engineering & Construction team by managing the permit process for assigned fiber builds. This position prepares and submits permit applications, secures right-of-way approvals and pole attachment agreements, tracks applications through approval and closeout, and keeps engineering, construction, project management, public agencies, and utility owners aligned. This is a full-time, non-exempt, entry-level position based on-site in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho and reporting to the OSP Engineering Manager.
Position Responsibilities
• Own the permit process for assigned fiber builds from initial application through final closeout.
• Research jurisdictional requirements and prepare complete, accurate permit submittals.
• Coordinate with engineering to gather drawings, route maps, traffic control plans, and other required materials.
• Submit right-of-way and encroachment permit applications through agency portals, email, or in person.
• Request pole attachments from utility owners and track make-ready work through completion.
• Maintain the permit tracker so project managers can identify approvals, pending items, risks, and upcoming deadlines.
• Follow up on agency comments and redlines and route required corrections to engineering promptly.
• Distribute approved permits and applicable conditions to construction teams before work begins.
• Monitor expiration dates and coordinate extensions, renewals, final inspections, and closeouts.
• Log permit fees, bonds, and invoices and provide documentation to Accounting as needed.
• Communicate professionally with city, county, utility, engineering, construction, and project management contacts.
• Travel locally as needed.
Experience/Minimum Requirements
• High school diploma or GED.
• Zero to two years of experience in an office, coordination, customer service, or related role, or a demonstrated ability and desire to learn.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
• Confidence communicating by phone and email with city, county, utility, and internal staff.
• Clear, professional written communication for applications, emails, and status updates.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Outlook and the ability to learn new systems.
• Demonstrated follow-through and persistence in moving approvals to completion.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel locally as needed.
• Exposure to telecommunications, utilities, construction, or public works is preferred.
• Experience with a city or county permit office or online permitting portals is preferred.
• Ability to read basic plan sheets, maps, or right-of-way drawings is preferred.
• Familiarity with GIS or mapping tools such as Google Earth or ArcGIS is preferred.
