FTTH Field Technician Supervisor

FTTH (Fiber to the Home) Field Operations Supervisor - Federal Way, WA

Position Summary

The Supervisor role is a hybrid leadership and hands-on field role responsible for overseeing daily Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) installation and repair activities while actively performing technical work in the field. This position leads technicians by example, ensuring high-quality installations, adherence to safety standards, and a positive customer experience.

The ideal candidate is a strong communicator and problem-solver who can effectively manage field schedules, support technicians, address customer concerns, and maintain high standards of safety, efficiency, and service quality.

Position Responsibilities

Leadership & Supervision

  • Provide daily on-site leadership for fiber technicians and subcontractors.
  • Manage daily and weekly technician schedules, assign work orders, plan routes, and make real-time adjustments to ensure efficient operations and on-time job completion.
  • Manage performance with detailed reports, analyzing trends and optimizing for the success of the business
  • Train and mentor technicians on installation and repair standards, safety practices, and best practices.
  • Conduct quality assurance inspections to ensure compliance with company and industry standards to include safety checks along with vehicle management.
  • Serve as the primary escalation point for field issues, service delays, and customer concerns.
  • Communicate directly with customers regarding installation issues, service concerns, and complaints, working to resolve problems and maintain customer satisfaction.
  • Support the Field Services Manager with workforce planning, performance feedback, and process improvement initiatives.

Technical Responsibilities

  • Perform FTTH installations and repairs, splicing, fiber routing, and ONT/CPE setup.
  • Troubleshoot and repair fiber connections, network equipment, and customer-side issues.
  • Complete site surveys, verify signal levels, and accurately document work using company systems.
  • Clearly explain technical issues, corrective actions, and service outcomes to customers during installations and service calls in an easy-to-understand manner.
  • Maintain company tools, vehicles, and equipment in safe, working condition.
  • Ensure all field activities comply with safety protocols, regulatory requirements, and company policies.

Operational Support

  • Coordinate with warehouse and inventory teams to ensure proper material availability and stock levels.
  • Assist with project planning, material forecasting, and field documentation.
  • Provide regular updates to management on job progress, field conditions, scheduling challenges, and operational issues.

Education/Certifications

High School Diploma or General Education Degree

Experience/Minimum Requirements

Qualifications & Skills

Required

  • Strong understanding of fiber splicing, light level testing, and FTTH network troubleshooting.
  • Proven ability to lead teams, delegate tasks, and manage field operations and schedules.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to work at heights, in confined spaces, and in varying weather conditions.

Preferred

  • Previous supervisory or lead technician experience.
  • Hands-on experience with OTDRs, power meters, fusion splicers, and field management software.
  • Industry certifications such as CFOT, OSHA 10/30, or other telecommunications credentials.

Physical & Work Environment Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 75 lbs.
  • Work may involve ladders, confined spaces, and outdoor environments.
  • Occasional on-call rotation, overtime, or weekend work based on operational needs.
